Amsale Designer Wedding Gowns
If your search for a simple yet elegant wedding dress has left you disappointed, don’t lose hope. There is one designer specializing in such couture wedding gowns, and her name is Amsale Aberra. She is one of the top bridal designers in the world, and a favorite of many celebrities, such as Salma Hayek, Kim Basinger, Vanessa Williams, Halle Berry, and Julia Roberts, to name just a few.
After moving to the United States from Ethiopia at age 19, Amsale’s interests changed from art to designing wedding dresses. This shift occurred in 1985, when she could not find the perfect dress for her own wedding. Giving up on finding a simple dress in the 80’s that was not beaded or gaudy, Amsale designed her own gown. Her modern designs intrigued other brides, and before she knew it, Amsale owned her own custom wedding gown design company that would go on to make $25 million in sales in 2006. Today, many of her gowns combine several fine details, such as lace, silk flowers, and delicate, tasteful beadwork to create a stylish yet simple appearance.
Amsale has a few different wedding gown lines, as well as a recently launched evening collection. One of her wedding dress lines is called the Blue Label Collection, featuring gowns with more intricate, complex designs, often integrating lace, delicate beadwork, and fine fabrics. Aside from the more complex design, this line differentiates itself from the other Amsale wedding gown collections with a blue label bearing the Amsale Aberra logo.
Another of her wedding gown lines is called Christos. These wedding gowns are known for their delicate lace and soft romantic appeal. Amsale acquired this line in order to provide gowns for a more diverse demographic. This collection is more widely available than the Blue Label Collection, with many gown boutiques across the country carrying it.
Her other bridal line is called Kenneth Pool named after its original designer, which was created to appeal to the bride wanting extensive beadwork, gorgeous fabrics, and extravagant glamour. Eventually, Kenneth Pool left to go to Priscilla of Boston and Amsale hired Austin Scarlett from the television show “Project Runway” to take over this line. He prides himself in creating full ball gowns and has carried on the original spirit of this line.
In addition to her wedding dress collections, Amsale has launched the Amsale Couture Evening Collection. In keeping with her typical theme, the dresses are modern, simple, and chic, suitable for a fun night out either on the town or a fancy ball. The line also includes mother of the bride and bridesmaid dresses. Pictures of the unique line have been featured in such popular magazines as In Style, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and W, among others.
